1 Thessalonians 5:4-11 “What Must We Do Before the Day of the Lord?”

1 Thessalonians 5:4-11 – Bible Study & Exploration

(Verses 4-11) Paul charges each of the brothers and sisters in Christ to edify one another with the encouraging words of Christ’s return. But first, he must remind them that they are not people of darkness or those who are asleep to the words of God and the arrival of the end of this age. Because of the gospel that they heard and accepted from Paul, they are children of the light and children of the day.

Because of this, the believers will not be surprised by what’s been prophesied for the end times. In fact, not only will we see and understand the signs in front of us, but we know we will be removed from the coming wrath of God. The wrath reserved for an unbelieving and sinful world that has chosen to reject Christ.

How do we know this? Jesus makes it clear as He dictates His final warning to the seven churches in Revelation 3:10.

“Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, so I also will keep you from the hour of trial that will come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of earth.”

This is the blessed hope that we find in our Lord Jesus Christ. The hope that we will not only avoid the wrath appointed for the unbelievers, but that we will be with the Lord forever when He returns to gather His church to Himself.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

John 14:1-4

Christ is that way. He is the only way back to the Father. He is the way, the truth and the life.
